The City of La Mesa is located directly east of the City of San Diego and is bordered on the Northeast by the City of El Cajon. Boasting a temperature range of daytime highs averaging 68 to 84 degrees, it is the perfect climate to enjoy La Mesa's 14 parks, golf course, public swimming pool, as well as the senior center, and community center.
Unique to this area is a new park, La Mesa's Briercrest Park, scheduled to open to the public in the first quarter of 2005. It is an expansive park containing many other parks within its borders. Not only will it have children's play areas with swings, climbing walls play panels and a whimsical play village; there will also be a wetlands area, and most inventive sensory gardens to be enjoyed by all, with a special focus for those with different disabilities. These sensory gardens include a texture garden, a fragrance garden, serenity garden, sound garden and butterfly garden.
La Mesa's schools earn some of the highest grades in San Diego County.
For higher education, La Mesa is only a 5 minute drive from San Diego State University, Grossmont Community College and Coleman College, and 30 minute commute from the University of San Diego and the University of California at San Diego.
Also in close proximity are the sunny beaches of the Pacific Ocean, Mission Bay and La Jolla Shores which are only 15 miles away. If your choice for a day's excursion is the mountains, the Laguna Mountains are only 45 miles away. Like San Diego, La Mesa is only 25 miles from the Mexican border, with its shopping a cultural experience that cannot be compared to an American mall.
