is a suburb of San Diego, adjoining it to the northeast, and offering all of the amenities of the city within close proximity. Downtown San Diego is less than 12 miles away and San Diego International Airport. Lindbergh Field is about 16 miles drive. Scripps Hospital is only 6 miles away in El Cajon. As of the 2000 census, there were 52,975 people living in Santee. These residents know the value of living a short commute to downtown San Diego.

to buy a home, where outdoor activities such as golf, hiking and biking are enjoyed year round. Also close enough for a day's outing is Tijuana, Mexico.
Santee's two public school districts have nine elementary, eight middle, and two high schools. There are also eight private schools to choose from.
Santee has several parks which are undergoing renovation and upgrade projects involving the improvement of the facilities and playground equipment.
Santee Lakes, dubbed, "The best backyard in San Diego," is a point of pride and hub for relaxation and family fun. This recreation preserve brings the country to the city with seven lakes surrounded by a variety of recreational activities. Deer and birds, usually driven out by the city, can live in its serene environment. There are over 50 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, even a new dog walk trail.
Its lakes provide visitors with fishing piers, pedal boats for 2 or 5 passengers, canoes, kayaks, and row boats. There is also a handicap accessible pier for fishing enthusiasts in wheelchairs, complete with lowered rails and a shade canopy.
Santee Lakes provides 5 playgrounds including the San Diego area's only playground equipped for full access for children with adaptive mobility equipment and a cushioned play surface. This Kiwanis Playground opened in August 2002. Another playground, the Sprayground, is a 1300 sq. ft. water play area which offers a cool retreat with potable water treated similarly to that of a swimming pool. Pumps are activated by the press of a button which starts the wet adventure to children's delight.
R.V. campsites and picnic areas are also available to enable an extended stay in this unique recreational preserve.
